Calvary Cries
(by Kathy Meyer - 1993)
What is that I hear from the distant hill?
Screeching cries that shout to kill!
As I quickly pass by I begin to fear
For the angry sounds that pierce my ear.
Why oh why does Calvary cry?
Is it for me, I wonder and sigh?
My heart tugs hard as I go by.
I go to this place that is so drear,
Where pain and death are very near.
And what I see draws me to my knee,
For a Righteous Man is nailed on a tree.
Why oh why does Calvary cry?
How my soul aches as I draw nigh.
Is it for me that someone should die?
Not mere man, my heart can tell.
His body and soul are drenched with hell.
Righteousness and love are in His face.
His final words are full of grace.
Why oh why does Calvary cry?
This is His plan that comes from on high.
God gave Himself so I would not die.
God yet man, how can this be?
He opened my eyes that I might see,
For nailed on a tree is release for me
That belief in Him, I am set free.
My heart and soul now know why
This Righteous One should suffer and die.
For my sin alone made Calvary cry!
