Some Fall Decor & More...

Thought I would post a few pix of some of my Fall Decor and
post some about gdaughter, Mallory's visit.

I couln't find a fall wreath for our front door that was just the right size and the right $$.
I also didn't want to make one...so I went with this gourd plaque for half price at Hobby Lobby.
I already had the swag at the top...thus together making a nice front door fall greeting

I have had these small wooden clothes pin dolls for years...
they seem to always find a place on a table or shelf this time of year.

Mallory had a delightful time painting a face on this pumpkin.
She named him, Steve!

This is "Yorkie" (as named by Mallory)
the scare crow that sits on our kitchen counter.

Another pic of Mallory standing at our front door.

I needed a table runner for our coffee table so I made one.
I wasn't sure what to create.
During the night I woke up thinking about it & this idea came to my mind.
Of course I couldn't rest until it was made!
I wanted to create something that would cause us to focus on this season's meaning
thus the applique words: Give Thanks

Here is another pix of Mallory in our front yard.

Mallory is such a delight to be around:)
Love you, Mallory.
Thanks for spending some of your fall break with us!

The Cab Ride...

So I walked to the door and knocked. "Just a minute", answered a frail, elderly voice. I could hear something being dragged across the floor. After a long pause, the door opened. A small woman in her 90's stood before me. She was wearing a print dress and a pillbox hat with a veil pinned on it, like somebody out of a 1940s movie. By her side was a small nylon suitcase. The apartment looked as if no one had lived in it for years. All the furniture was covered with sheets. There were no clocks on the walls, no knickknacks or utensils on the counters. In the corner was a cardboard box filled with photos and glassware.

"Would you carry my bag out to the car?" she said. I took the suitcase to the cab, then returned to assist the woman. She took my arm and we walked slowly toward the curb. She kept thanking me for my kindness. "It's nothing", I told her. "I just try to treat my passengers the way I would want my mother treated".

"Oh, you're such a good boy", she said. When we got in the cab, she gave me an address, and then asked, "Could you drive through downtown?" "It's not the shortest way," I answered quickly. "Oh, I don't mind," she said. "I'm in no hurry. I'm on my way to a hospice".

I looked in the rear-view mirror. Her eyes were glistening. "I don't have any family left,' she continued. "The doctor says I don't have very long." I quietly reached over and shut off the meter. "What route would you like me to take?" I asked. For the next two hours, we drove through the city. She showed me the building where she had once worked as an elevator operator.

We drove through the neighborhood where she and her husband had lived when they were newlyweds. She had me pull up in front of a furniture warehouse that had once been a ballroom where she had gone dancing as a girl.

Sometimes she'd ask me to slow in front of a particular building or corner and would sit staring into the darkness, saying nothing. As the first hint of sun was creasing the horizon, she suddenly said, "I'm tired. Let's go now".

We drove in silence to the address she had given me. It was a low building, like a small convalescent home, with a driveway that passed under a portico. Two orderlies came out to the cab as soon as we pulled up. They were solicitous and intent, watching her every move. They must have been expecting her.

I opened the trunk and took the small suitcase to the door. The woman was already seated in a wheelchair. "How much do I owe you?" she asked, reaching into her purse. "Nothing," I said. "You have to make a living," she answered. "There are other passengers," I responded. Almost without thinking, I bent and gave her a hug. She held onto me tightly. "You gave an old woman a little moment of joy," she said. "Thank you." I squeezed her hand, and then walked into the dim morning light. Behind me, a door shut. It was the sound of the closing of a life.

I didn't pick up any more passengers that shift. I drove aimlessly lost in thought. For the rest of that day, I could hardly talk. What if that woman had gotten an angry driver, or one who was impatient to end his shift? What if I had refused to take the run, or had honked once, then driven away? On a quick review, I don't think that I have done anything more important in my life. We're conditioned to think that our lives revolve around great moments.

But great moments often catch us unaware-beautifully wrapped in what others may consider a small one.

PEOPLE MAY NOT REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT YOU DID, OR WHAT YOU SAID, BUT THEY WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW YOU MADE THEM FEEL.

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

I will delight in the Lord, my Saviour!

God is SO GOOD to me...and prayer is essential for the believer:)

I prayed then called the internet store where I purchased the American flag for Warren for his bd. It was quick and easy...the lady on the phone was nice and apologized for getting the order wrong...is emailing a return label so I can mail back the wrong flag and is priority mailing me the right flag:)

Thank you, Lord:)

Look'n Good at 62!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Warren!

Todd & Warren

Amy made her dad his favorite dessert...
Homemade old family recipe chocolete pie!

Bledsoe gkids wishing gdad a happy bd!

What could it be???

A new American flag to hang outside
and it's made in the USA!

There was one problem though with the flag...it was not the one I ordered, but I didn't know it until he opened it:( The Flag company sent me a less expensive one...not the one I ordered...and still charged me for the more expensive one...go figure:(:(:( So now I have to go through all the trouble & time to mail this one back and get them to send me the one I ordered with no extra charge to me. I do hope this goes smoothly and satisfactory:)
And by the way, Warren does NOT color his hair! He is often asked or accused of this...really:)

New Glasses...

As inspired by my younger sister, Sherrell, I am now sporting new rimless glasses! I just love them...as close as you can get to not wearing glasses besides contacts! See my profile pic above.

I've been busy doing this and that, but must get back to working/sewing on Macey's 1st birthday quilt. My goal is to finish it soon...for I have a lot of Christmas sewing I must do:)

From One Pumpkin to Another

A woman was asked by a coworker,
'What is it like to be a Christian?'

The coworker replied, 'It is like being a pumpkin.'
God picks you from the patch, brings you in,
and washes all the dirt off of you.
Then He cuts off the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff.
He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, and greed.
Then He carves you a new smiling face and
puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see.'

This was passed on to me by another pumpkin.
Now it's your turn to pass it to other pumpkins.
