Welcome to the Christmas edition of getting to know your friends.
Eventhough they do not have blogs, I tag Theresa, Anna Marie & Warren:)!! You guys can send me an email and I will post it on my blog, hopefully!
1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Paper – interesting to watch how people open their presents!
2. Real or artificial tree? Always a real tree since forever it seems.
3. When do you put up the tree? Whenever we have a free weekend before Christmas.
4. When do you take the tree down? Usually a day or two after Christmas. I am always ready to get things back in order and in place.
5. Do you like eggnog? Absolutely! Eggnog ice cream is delicious too!
6. Favorite gift received as a child? Can't remember, but I do remember getting one of the first Barbie dolls when they came out. I still have it! Since I remember this maybe it was my favorite!
7. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes, several of which are homemade. The nativity is one of the first decorations we put out at Christmas time.
8. Hardest person to buy for? My son in loves and son. I am beginning to think "gift cards" are great gifts!
10. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Really, cannot remember getting a worst Christmas gift.
11. Mail or email Christmas cards? In the past I have mailed them, but this year I emailed those who have email addresses and mailed a few to those who do not. Over the last 2 years, the Christmas cards we usually receive has dwindled.
12. Favorite Christmas Movie? "It is a Wonderful Life" and," Home Alone"
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? I usually start thinking about it a few months before Christmas and jot down a note when I think of a special gift to buy for a specific person. I usually start shopping in October/November online and in stores.
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Yes, I have been known to do this.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Homemade fudge, pecan pie, and any of my son in love's (KB) creations or daughter in love's (JM) Chinese cooking.
16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? I like both especially when they sparkle!
17. Favorite Christmas song? Silent Night
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? When the kids were young we traveled to grantparents' houses in other states. When they got older we stayed at home. Now that we have grandchildren, we celebrate Christmas on whatever day we can get together - this could include traveling to their houses.
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? Yes, only because Meri listed them all out for me! Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixon, Rudolph.
20. What's on the tree top? A blinking star. The wisemen saw the star and followed it to Bethlehem. There they found Jesus Christ the Newborn King!
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or Christmas morning? Christmas morning, but I usually let the children (grandchildren now) open one present on Christmas Eve.
22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? Merchants who are afraid to say "Merry Christmas!"
23. Do you decorate your tree in any specific theme or color? No, most of my decorations are homemade.
24. What do/did you leave for Santa? Really did not do this tradition in our home.
25. What were any traditions you had growing up? Cannot seem to remember any, but have many with our own family and started some new ones with our grandchildren. Setting up the nativity, seeing Christmas lights, reading Luke 2, making gingerbread houses, acting out the Luke 2 in costume, making a birthday cake for Jesus and singing Happy Birthday to Jesus, are some I can remember now.
Here are a few Iowa pics. Baby, it is REALLY COLD outside!
Remember what you see in these pics stays on the ground until spring!
When we arrive back home we will have Christmas with the Bledsoe's and Schubert's. After this I am sure I will have lots of pictures and photoshows to show off! How gracious you are to enjoy our joys!
We do wish you all a very Merry CHRISTmas and Blessed New Year!
Baby it's COLD inside!
Sunday, December 9, 2007 we were hit with an ice storm...a BIG ICE STORM! Yes, we were expecting an ice storm but no where in the magnitude of the one that hit us! Our electricity went out Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m. It did not come on again until Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. A lot of folks are still without electricity.
We have so MUCH to be thankful for during this time of "coldship".
For as long as I can remember, we have put the manger scene up as the first decoration of the Christmas season. This helps us to keep in perspective Who this time of year is all about and Whose birthday we are celebrating!
(As a side note: this is the manger scene that I made about 30 years ago. I bought it at Hobby Lobby. It was unpainted ceramic which I painted and glazed. An heirloom for sure.)
Since the grandchildren have come, we place every person and animal in it's place, but do not put out baby Jesus. Instead, He has been placed in a special gift tin tied up with gold ribbon. Then on Christmas morning, He is the very first gift we open - for He is the very BEST GIFT we could ever receive in our lives!Like Simon, you may see yourself as an innocent passerby being forced into service - helping an aunt recover from a stroke - assisting a neighbor who just got out of the hospital - lending a hand to a co-worker who recently was diagnosed with a terminal illness.
And like Simon, the task may take you unaware, your plans may be interrupted, and you may feel put-upon. But as you carry the burden of a hurting friend or family member, you may discover that your attitude will change - especially when you see that smile of relief and gratitude. You'll discover the privilege of being someone's Simon.

As you see in these photos there is a whole lot going on in this room especailly when I am motivated and pushed for time to finish projects and start new ones.
I luv this room. It is ALL mine! Warren comes in only when he is summoned! Not really! But you do not often find him in here just hanging around. He does office in the bedroom right down the hall from this room. So we can call out back and forth to each other when needed!
God is Good!
After removing the car battery, he closed the car hood and door...leaving the only set of car keys we had with us locked inside the car. No problem, since we have a push button code on the door that will unlock it...EXCEPT when it does not have a battery in the car!! UGH....BIG time UGH!
Warren said he knew it the minute he closed the hood but it was too late! I did feel his pain and was glad it was not me this time!
The good news is that we just changed our car insurance to get a lower rate with AAA and also bought AAA car assistance. So Warren was able to call them (Thank you Lord for cell phones) and they came out in an hour to get our car unlocked.
So we were able to ride around Skiatook Lake after all for about an hour before AAA arrived. We were still on the lake at 6:30 pm in the dark (thanks to Daylight Savings Time) and the last ones at this dock to get their boat out of the water! A first for us!
We plan on NOT making these kinds of mistakes again. Always good to learn from one's mistakes! Even though this memory turned out different than we had planned, at least we were together, and God did give us a beautiful sunset to end the day!
Click here on sunset if you want to view a few more pics of our Memorable Boat Ride.
It has been good to have available all this time for myself to do some sewing, start projects, finish old projects, cleaning (did I say cleaning!), computer work, Bible Study, reading, cooking, exercising, etc., etc, etc!
BUT the fact is it seems:
Does ANYONE relate???
As you can see (in my bordem) I have redesigned this blog page, well actually, I just chose another template from the blog list! I am not that computer savvy!!! I also wanted to post the above pic sometime on this blog so now is as good of a time as any. I just think it is so funny!
Well "tomorrow" is finally here for today I am on a mission! Hubby will be home tomorrow after lunch. YEAH! (FLIP!) YEAH! And I WILL get everything done for his arrival. I am motivated and will see it through!
It's better to have a partner than go it alone. Share the work, share the wealth. And if one falls down, the other helps, but if there's no one to help, tough! Two in a bed warm each other. Alone, you shiver all night. By yourself you're unprotected. With a friend you can face the worst. Can you round up a third? A three-stranded rope isn't easily snapped. Ecclesiastes 4:9 (The Message)
*I have learned a new word in my bordem: ennui (aun'wee, Fr) n. weariness and dissatisfaction resulting from inactivity or lack of interest; boredom. HELP me, Lord!
as seen at the 2007 Air Show in Muskogee, OK
(Todd M. this post and photoshow are for you! Wish you could have been with us.)
The Blue Angels are the U.S. Navy stunt flight team. The jets flew and manuvered on a perfect, sunny Saturday. The six blue-and-yellow F/A-18 Hornets lined up on the runway facing the crowd. Air whistled through their engines as the pilots prepared for take-off.
People in the crowd shaded their eyes against the afternoon sun to get a good look. As the jets began rolling, the landscape behind them was turned into a shimmering mirage by the hot exhaust.
Once in the air, the Blue Angels treated the crown to a wide variety of graceful formations and dramatic maneuvers. People craned their necks to follow the action. There was thunder in the sky, despite clear weather and a light breeze.
The Army's award-winning skydiving team, the Golden Knights, also performed at the Air Show as did other air craft.
It was quite a show!
What a spectacular day
we had with our grandson,
Parker B.!

At his school assembly today, Parker was awarded the Star of the Month Certificate for Responsibility. We are so proud of you and the Star Effort you are showing in responsibility! Way to go, Grandson!
Granddaughter, Mallory B received the 3.0 Culb award. That means she received all "A's" & "B's" on her Report Card this first nine weeks.
Way to go, Granddaughter!
Keep up the Good Work and Effort!
We are so proud of you!
Parker received the 3.0 Club award too!
Way to go Park!
"It is by his deeds that a child distinguishes himself if his conduct is pure and right." Proverbs 20:11 (NAS)
Oh, what fun to grow a pumpkin patch for the grandchildren!
The gkids planted a Pumpkin Patch during Cousin Camp week in July.
Here I am at the camp office. This was a nice RV park as for as needing a place to stay for a night or two, but we prefer more of a wooded campsite with some distance between sites especially when we bring the grandchildren along.
One more picture. This is a dock on Beaver Lake, a really beautiful, clear lake.
